Buildings like the Bloomfield centre have a design which features a walkway going through, connecting the adjacent streets. Having these shortcuts allows you to interact with the spaces differently, noticing subtle characteristics that give personality to these anonymous seeming spaces. Graffiti monikers etched on to doors and fences, unkept weeds now flourishing, accumulation of garbage and makeshift benches. I have always been attentive to the things that accumulate in or around these buildings, and uses this as a measure to examine how many people use these spaces for similar purposes. Time spent walking by these buildings in daily commutes have become embedded to the artists identity living in Halifax. These buildings have provided a source of inspiration for the artists documentation as well as simply being a more interesting building to admire. These paintings pay homage to the dissipating characteristics that I have valued or associated with my community.
